Brom Wikstrom wanted to be an artist from the time he was a teenager, but a headfirst dive into the Mississippi River left him paralyzed in his early twenties. During rehab, he learned to operate a keyboard using a stick in his mouth, and eventually he relearned how to paint using his mouth. After years of practice and working with the Mouth and Foot Painting Artists (MFPA), Brom now makes a living as an artist, traveling to exhibit his work worldwide.
Our goal was to tell the story of a man who, in the face of an unimaginable tragedy, chose to persevere and pursue his dream. Wikstorm not only became a paid artist, he built a life for himself and continues to thrive, now at age 72, with his wife at his side.
Wikstrom captivates audiences of all ages and shows that no matter the circumstances, people— those 50-plus—can still lead purposeful, creative, and fulfilling lives at any stage.
