MDA 75th Anniversary: Legacy, Impact, Momentum

Entered in Multi-Platform Campaign

Objective

Muscular Dystrophy Association's (MDA) 75th Anniversary campaign transformed an important milestone into an opportunity to strengthen connections, renew relationships, and deepen partnerships across the neuromuscular disease community. Instead of focusing only on legacy, the campaign connected 75 years of progress with MDA’s future through unified storytelling shared on broadcast, digital, social media, web, print, events, email, and partner channels.

The campaign created new opportunities to listen and learn. Its purpose was to position MDA to work more proactively and collaboratively, aligning mission delivery with the needs, preferences, and urgency expressed by the community. Engagement insights helped shape a community-driven strategic plan and set the groundwork for MDA’s future impact.

Each platform activated for the campaign served a specific purpose while it reinforced one consistent narrative: progress is powered by the MDA community. By elevating the voices of families, caregivers, researchers, clinicians, volunteers, advocates, and partners, the campaign created multiple entry points for audiences to discover, engage, and share MDA's mission.

MDA designed this campaign to:

Through a coordinated, multichannel, always-on strategy, the campaign turned an historic anniversary into a catalyst for measurable brand growth and mission impact.

Strategy

The Muscular Dystrophy Association's 75th Anniversary campaign was intentionally designed as a multi-platform experience, ensuring audiences encountered a consistent story wherever they interacted with MDA.

The campaign launched with the unveiling of MDA's 75th Anniversary identity. The logo's transition from black and white to vibrant color symbolized MDA's journey from uncertainty to hope - a visual theme that became the connective thread across every platform.

The campaign's centerpiece was a nationally distributed PSA for broadcast. Beginning in black and white before transitioning into full color, the PSA introduced the campaign's core message and established a visual language that extended throughout the year.

Rather than relying on one communications channel, MDA activated complementary platforms that each played a unique role:

Broadcast & Video: The national PSA introduced millions of viewers to MDA's anniversary story. Additional video series—including People Behind the PSA, 75 Strong, and Mission Milestones—extended the campaign through authentic stories that sustained engagement long after the PSA launched.

Social Media: Organic and paid social content amplified campaign stories, celebrated community milestones, encouraged audience participation, and drove traffic to campaign resources while providing real-time engagement with supporters.

Digital & Web: MDA75.org served as the campaign hub, housing an interactive timeline, milestone stories, historical content, and resources that allowed audiences to explore MDA's 75-year legacy and future vision.

Email Marketing: Anniversary storytelling was integrated into supporter communications throughout the year, strengthening relationships with new, current, and lapsed donors, volunteers, and advocates while reinforcing campaign messaging.

Print & Editorial: Quest Media covered the 75th anniversary through print, digital, and audio, and created a commemorative edition. The campaign extended into long-form storytelling, highlighting milestone achievements and personal stories from across the neuromuscular community.

Experiential Events: At MDA's national Clinical & Scientific Conference, attendees experienced the campaign in person through a Legacy Corridor showcasing 75 years of progress and an interactive anniversary booth featuring quizzes, photo opportunities, and volunteer engagement.

Partner & Community Activation: Staff, volunteers, corporate partners, and community leaders received campaign toolkits containing messaging, graphics, and social assets, empowering them to amplify the campaign across their own networks while continuing a unified brand voice.

Community Listening & Integration: MDA convened a Community Advisory Task Force to gather perspectives from across the neuromuscular disease community. These insights were synthesized and shared with organizational leaders, helping MDA identify priorities, test assumptions, and shape the development of its next strategic plan.

Together, these channels and experiences formed a connected campaign rather than a collection of isolated tactics. Broadcast generated awareness, digital experiences deepened engagement, social media encouraged participation, events created memorable in-person connections, and partner channels expanded the campaign's reach.  Each touchpoint reinforced the same message of progress, trust, and possibility, creating a consistent audience experience wherever people encountered MDA.
