The Brennan Center for Justice produced the "The Alien Enemies Act, Explained" to raise awareness about the illegality and unconstitutionality of Trump's plan to use a wartime law for peacetime immigration enforcement. The video was produced in English and Spanish.
We created the digital short explainer, “The Alien Enemies Act, Explained”, to educate the public about a 200 year-old law, called the Alien Enemies Act, that can only be used in wartime. The act was last used during World War II to imprison tens of thousands of innocent people of Japanese, German, and Italian ancestry who hadn’t obtained citizenship. We used archival and contemporary imagery to illustrate the repercussions of the AEA in WWII, and the harms this law may again cause if President Trump abuses it for peacetime immigration enforcement.
The digital short ran on YouTube and across social media channels.
