Objective

Here’s a startling fact – 1.7 million LGBTQ+ children and teens find themselves homeless in the United States. They face discrimination, rejection and harm. Some of them are as young as 12.

And as anti-LGBTQ+ rhetoric continues to increase, discriminatory laws are enacted and programs that support this community are cut, the few safe spaces queer teens could count on are disappearing at an alarming rate. Additionally, due to the very real risks of showing support, many allies have gone silent. These kids are left isolated and afraid.

To make the situation even more dire, the national suicide hotline for LGBTQ+ youth has been shuttered. In a cultural moment when silence and erasure are happening in real time, LGBTQ+ youth need a discreet, accessible way to locate safety and support exactly when and where they need it.

Strategy

STRATEGY In partnership with Courage+, an advocacy-driven nonprofit with a mission to protect LGBTQ+ youth, we created Bravespace — a mobile-first platform that connects these vulnerable teens to local, LGBTQ+-affirming spaces in real time. Designed for instant access, anonymity and ease of use, Bravespace allows teens to quickly discover nearby businesses, healthcare providers, restaurants and community resources that offer genuine acceptance. Equally important, it enables allies to show up discreetly for kids. It’s a shared space shaped by bravery on both sides.

EXECUTION To expand quickly and reach as many kids as possible, Courage+ invited its network of known ally organizations, businesses and community leaders to activate their support by placing Bravespace stickers featuring QR codes in visible, high-traffic areas — turning storefronts and windows into real-time signals of safety. These physical markers transformed the platform into a grassroots cultural movement, discoverable without search, sign-ups or exposure.

Results

RESULTS Within three days of launch, the number of participating organizations more than tripled. To date, Bravespace has connected hundreds of LGBTQ+ youth to critical services in more than 100 communities. Proving that in dark, scary times, there are beacons of bravery everywhere.
