Sheer Cupidity - AI Valentine's Card

Objective

Valentine’s Day is a celebration of love—a time to express your feelings with heartfelt gestures, thoughtful gifts and sincere displays of affection. In other words, Valentine’s Day is hard! We wanted to take the struggle out of creating personalized and meaningful Valentine's greetings and put the fun back into the day of love. To do this we created Sheer Cupidity, an AI-powered Valentine’s card creator that set out to show how AI can be used to craft an emotionally resonant experience with high user engagement within a small-scale project. Our objective was not simply to redefine the Valentine’s card experience using AI technology, but to inspire and demonstrate to our users the potential of AI-driven creativity in shaping digital experiences.

Strategy

To create Sheer Cupidity, we used a strategic blend of AI technologies, creative design, and user-centric execution. We began by conceptualizing the user journey, envisioning the experience as a platform where users could effortlessly create personalized Valentine's cards with the assistance of an AI Cupid. Our design team crafted a user-friendly interface that guided users through the card creation process, keeping the focus on simplicity, elegance and humor. Users add names and short descriptions of themselves and their lucky Valentine and “Cupid” does the rest, creating a romantic card cover and love poem that they can share and enjoy. 

We leveraged three different AI technologies to create the experience. We used DALL·E 3 to generate unique card covers based on user inputs, GPT-4 to craft the love poems and card text, and OpenAI's Text-to-Speech API to read the poems aloud. The poem reading and original soundtrack, created by our in-house composer, added a multi-sensory dimension to the card, making it even more engaging and memorable. 

During the development period, we faced a significant challenge in ensuring the outputs were of consistent quality and relevance and fit into the Valentine’s aesthetic without becoming repetitive. Through an iterative process of fine-tuning, we successfully engineered prompts and a back-end flow that produced results that consistently integrated into the overall experience while feeling fresh and distinctive.

As interest in Sheer Cupidity grew, ensuring scalability became crucial. We addressed this challenge by leveraging cloud infrastructure and scalable AI services, enabling the platform to handle increasing user traffic and demand.

Results

We released Sheer Cupidity on the 8th of February, 2024 and promoted it across our social media channels leading up to Valentine’s Day. During this period we gained 281K impressions across Instagram, LinkedIn and X (Twitter) and attracted 6K users who generated 6.7K Valentine’s cards. The cards were viewed 12.2K times for an average of 1.82 views per card. Sheer Cupidity exceeded our team's objectives by engaging 4x more users than previous benchmarks and delivering a seamless user experience with overwhelmingly positive feedback. The personalization features made it simple and enjoyable for users to create custom cards, successfully demonstrating how AI can be used to create high emotional impact while making it a breeze to please your squeeze.
