For Season 2 of Native America, we wanted to curate dynamic graphics that captured the rich culture of contemporary, ingenious communities. Through animated Fact Graphics and People Spotlights, our designs aimed to educate viewers and celebrate indigenous artistry, leadership, and stories. As the series is told through the lens of indigenous directors, our graphics focused on highlighting the stories they tell throughout the series in a visual way.
We developed animated graphics that subvert the erasure that we see of indigenous history and language and implemented a slow reveal of various elements to visually demonstrate a larger theme of recovery and reclamation. To highlight key facts and data without sacrificing the integrity of the information, we opted for interactive carousel posts. With each swipe, there’s new information and effects to keep viewers engaged. Our social pieces were reflective of the Key Art and felt celebratory in nature to advertise the release of new episodes.
The graphics were posted to PBS’ Instagram page aiding with spreading awareness of the series and indigenous history to their one million followers. Commentators were inspired to connect their own personal stories to the featured graphics. The main objective was to recognize the past, present, and future of indigenous communities with these beautiful pieces.
