On social media, Verizon gets more complaints about bills than love for the brand. So, when we found out the Internet was turning 50 this year, we saw an opportunity to connect to our most skeptical audience on two topics we can all agree on…the Internet and cake.
To celebrate 50 years of the Internet, we invited our customers to bake the Internet the first ever 3D printed, user-generated birthday cake. During a Twitter livestream, followers used Twitter polls to decide the batter flavors, frosting colors and beloved memes they wanted on the cake, and a 3D food printer powered by our network made it real-time.
For the first time ever, the brand achieved 100% positive sentiment with over 700k impressions in just 3 short hours, and zero paid media support. In the end, we got fewer complaints about bills, and more likes, loves and shares for the brand.
