A Real Bug's Life: Kids React

Objective

We wanted to create a bespoke social media video to capture the unflitered reactions of "A Real Bug's Life's" top audience--kids! This piece is meant to spark joy and laughter through the hilarious reactions of children watching the wild weirdness of "A Real Bug's Life." This video was created for 9x16 social platforms, garnering shares, reposts and engagements from existing Nat Geo audiences and newcomers who find this video on their explore feeds.


 

Strategy

We worked with Spaceman to shoot and produce this video for our social audiences, tailoring it for each platform (Facebook, Instagram, YouTube Shorts, Threads and Tiktok). For the social shoot, we made efforts to cast talent of multiple ages and backgrounds so this piece could resonate with anyone watching. This was a big swing, so we secured a collaboration on Instagram with the main @NatGeo brand handle to amplify our reach.

 

Results

Overall, "Kids React" performed incredibly well across channels, earning over 14 million video views. This video was a big swing for us thematically, leaning into more silly elements than strictly serious educational content. This video set the tone for the rest of the A Real Bug's Life campaign, hitting the nail on the head with our main audience for the series: kids and families.
