The WGA and SAG strikes impacted scripted series on SYFY in a way that caused longer breaks between seasons for Resident Alien and a split season rollout for Chucky. Because of this and also because the holiday season is often a great time to snuggle up on the couch and binge shows, SYFY partnered with Tongal and their community of creators to create custom content that encouraged fans and newcomers to stream previous seasons / episodes on Peacock in advance of both shows’ 2024 return.
SYFY and Tongal sought out content creators and fans of these series to create their own content that was thematically tied to the season with a SYFY spin highlighting characters and iconography from both Chucky and Resident Alien. The brief allowed for the creators to produce video and/or still content in the style of their choice that was ripe for social platforms and bridged the gap between classic holiday tropes/imagery and our IP.
Collectively, the posts across Chucky, Resident Alien, and SYFY social platforms reached nearly 4M impressions, 2.5M views for the videos, and over 300k engagements. We also saw an uptick in viewership for Resident Alien on Peacock even though new episodes hadn't been available for over a year. Chucky also continued to be a top performer for the platform. In short, fans enjoyed and shared our content on social platforms, but also took intitative to catch up these two series over the holidays - a win-win!
