- By using metallic debris as a canvas for reflecting key scenes and characters, the sequence introduces its protagonists in a unique and engaging manner. The central idea is to convey the fragmented yet interconnected nature of the Transformers universe, while simultaneously hinting at a key moment in the film. The debris field symbolizes the aftermath of conflict and destruction visited upon the original Primes, while the reflected scenes hint at the stories and characters that emerge from their legacy. The gradual coming together of the debris into the title treatment symbolizes the coalescing force that brings our heroes together to carry on the legacy of the Primes, and realize their own destinies as told in the story of Transformers One.

GOALS:
- Establish mood and tone: The use of metallic debris, rapid camera movements, and fragmented reflections create a sense of action and underlying tension.
- Introduce key characters: Showcasing brief but impactful glimpses of each main character on individual debris pieces provides a quick and memorable introduction.
- Generate intrigue: The fragmented reflections pique viewers' curiosity and encourage them to piece together the narrative threads.
- Create a visually striking opener: The dynamic camera work, combined with the unique use of reflective surfaces and culminating title formation, delivers a visually impactful and memorable sequence.
- In order to recreate the tone of the final resting place of the Primes, as depicted in the film, we dove into the existing footage. Based on our findings, we created custom metallic shards in 3D, carefully matching atmosphere and lighting. Once we had established the oily, distressed look of the metallic shards spinning slowly in the air, we then curated key shots of the main characters from the film, and simulated reflections of them off of the surface of our custom metal. To add additional atmospheric texture, we then referenced the particles emitted by the Transformation Cogs (TCOGS) from the same scene, and created rivers of streaming red particles (also in 3D) visible in the background. The final shot was a reveal of the film’s title treatment, fully realized in 3D (TRANSFORMERS ONE) forming from the merging metal shards. The forming of the logo serves as a metaphor for the formation of the story realized by the actions of our cast reflected upon the surface of those that came before them.
Our client at Paramount Pictures was quoted with saying,
“Thank you so much for all the awesome work on this campaign. Metal Debris is hands down one of my favorite pieces across all the campaigns I’ve worked on here.” - Daniela
