Life Skills: Building Healthier Family Relationships

Entered in Branded Series

Objective

Life Skills: Building Healthier Family Relationships was created to give people accessible, compassionate tools for navigating some of the most challenging and universal dynamics we face: those within our families. We know from our members that difficult family relationships are among the top stressors in their lives. Yet many people don’t have the language, boundaries, or practical strategies to navigate them in ways that protect their wellbeing.

The idea was to take therapy-informed insights- around topics like relationship burnout, compassion fatigue, forgiveness, one-sided relationships, and even how to let go- and present them in a way that felt approachable, supportive, and empowering. Partnering with renowned therapist and author Dr. Nedra Glover Tawwab, we set out to translate clinical wisdom into simple, everyday skills anyone could use.

Our goal was twofold: to help people feel less alone in the struggles that come with family relationships, and to provide actionable practices they could immediately apply to create healthier dynamics. By weaving Nedra’s expertise with dynamic visual storytelling and short, interactive exercises, the series aimed to both educate and engage- showing that small steps in how we relate to one another can have a transformative impact on our overall wellbeing.

Ultimately, our ambition was not only to support members during moments of relational stress, but to leave them with a toolkit they could return to, fostering resilience and self-compassion well beyond the episodes themselves.

Strategy

Creating Life Skills: Building Healthier Family Relationships required us to balance clinical integrity with creative storytelling- ensuring the content felt as engaging as it was therapeutic.

We began by identifying the most pressing themes people struggle with in family relationships: burnout, imbalance, compassion fatigue, forgiveness, and letting go. These topics were carefully chosen for their universality and relevance, ensuring that members could see their own experiences reflected in the series. From there, we collaborated with Dr. Nedra Glover Tawwab, whose warm, practical guidance anchored the entire collection. Her presence brought authenticity, relatability, and trust to the series.

Our plan of action was to design each episode around “moments”- concise, digestible segments where Nedra could share insights, paired with clear, actionable steps. To deepen impact, we integrated short animated exercises within the live-action content. This blend allowed us to shift seamlessly from reflection to practice, keeping members engaged while helping them apply lessons in real time.

Visually, we used a mixed-media collage approach that combined live action, illustration, and typography. This gave the content a dynamic, modern feel that held attention even when tackling heavier subjects. The creative style mirrored the complexity of relationships themselves- layered, sometimes messy, but also full of color and possibility.

We faced a few key challenges. One was striking the right balance between clinical advice and engaging storytelling. Too much of one risked losing either credibility or interest. We overcame this through close collaboration between our clinical and creative teams, ensuring accuracy never came at the expense of accessibility. Another challenge was the length of the episodes. Because the topics were so nuanced and serious, we knew shorter formats would feel dismissive. But longer episodes risked losing attention. To solve this, we built in rhythm- alternating between personal anecdotes, definitions, guidance, and interactive exercises- so members always had new entry points to stay engaged. Finally, blending live action with animation required careful calibration so the two felt cohesive. Rather than treating them as separate layers, we interwove them to feel like a single experience, where visuals actively reinforced the teaching.

What makes this work unique is its combination of therapeutic authority, creative craft, and practical utility. It wasn’t just about telling people how to manage their relationships; it was about showing them, guiding them step-by-step in a way that was empathetic, visually engaging, and immediately usable.

The result was a series that feels both premium and deeply personal- a companion for anyone navigating the complexities of family relationships, offering reassurance that change is possible, and tools to make it real.

Results

We set out to create a series that not only addressed a top source of stress for our members, but did so in a way that felt resonant, engaging, and impactful. By those measures, Life Skills: Building Healthier Family Relationships exceeded our expectations.

Qualitatively, the series struck a chord with members who shared that they finally felt seen in their struggles. The approachable, non-judgmental tone invited people to explore difficult topics- like resentment, boundaries, or forgiveness- without stigma. Partnering with Dr. Nedra Tawwab brought additional credibility and warmth, making the lessons feel both trustworthy and human.

Creatively, the balance of live action, animation, and interactive exercises succeeded in keeping members’ attention on longer, more serious topics. Rather than feeling heavy, the content felt dynamic and supportive, helping people stay present through complex material. This ensured not only that members completed the sessions, but that they retained and applied the skills.

Importantly, the collection fostered a sense of community and empowerment. Members weren’t just learning about healthier relationships; they were practicing them, one step at a time. The feedback we received confirmed that the content provided not just knowledge, but relief- a reminder that they had options, tools, and support in navigating family stress.

We consider the project a success because it delivered on its core objective: to transform therapy-informed insights into practical, relatable skills that help people care for their relationships- and, by extension, their mental health.
