Objectives

The E! People’s Choice Awards celebrate all forms of entertainment, chosen solely by the fans – For the People, By the People. E!’s mission is to be the ! of the Pop Culture year and crown the moments and people that mattered in Pop Culture. 2020 was truly an unprecedented year and as a year-end show, the E! People’s Choice Awards had a remarkable opportunity to look back & celebrate the biggest names in entertainment, the awe-inspiring moments in pop culture and the everyday heroes and champions that got us through it.

Strategy and Execution

The 2020 E! People’s Choice Awards had a remarkable opportunity to look back & celebrate the triumphant moments and human spirit we witnessed over the year. With a full red carpet experience, celebrities brought the fashion and fun with live interviews at a safe distance. E! delivered a spectacular fan experience by making a live virtual audience ever-present throughout the show. The night started with a Twitter livestream with a behind-the-scenes tour of the red carpet. New elements such as the Celeb Stan Club video series which celebrates the fan in all of us, Why I’m A Fan nominee tributes, a custom AR Instagram filter, and a Twitter Watch Party allowed fans and celebs alike to be part of the PCA conversation by giving them a chance to engage and interact with their pop culture favorites. Moving from red carpet to main show, the PCAs Twitter Live Look-In allowed fans to experience and watch the first act of the hosted PCAs broadcast. While winners were announced live through the PCAs broadcast, additional categories were announced with live winner acceptance speeches on Instagram Reels and Twitter with the first-ever PCAs Winner Circle.

Results

Prior to the live showing, the E! People’s Choice Awards had potential viewers vote in advance of the event, receiving 1.4 billion votes total. The E! People’s Choice Awards reached 1.1 million viewers across E! Bravo, Syfy, and USA Network. Expanding its global footprint to 142 countries, all E! digital and social platforms, audiences consumed nearly 15 million minutes with PCA content, up +2% YoY. Overall social video consumption increased +120% YoY delivering 32.6 million video views. Time spent with E! social and digital platforms for PCAs increased from 2019 levels – for the E! stream, Live Look In, Post Pop and Watch Party combined, Twitter increased double-digits in views (+28%) and video minutes consumed (+30%). The Twitter Live Look in specifically was up +221% for views and +186% for minutes watched.
