Objective

The objective was to reinforce DIRECTV’s “Glow Up” brand positioning by creating a social-first branded video that clearly communicated key product benefits such as no annual contract, flexible streaming, and an all-in-one entertainment experience. The goal was to deliver a piece that prioritized brand clarity and memorability while still feeling entertaining and native to social platforms. By pairing DIRECTV’s messaging with Kumail Nanjiani’s comedic voice, the campaign aimed to educate audiences in a way that felt humorous, approachable, and distinct within the crowded streaming landscape.

Strategy

Guided Meditation was produced as part of DIRECTV’s broader 2H 2025 Commercial Advertising campaign featuring Kumail Nanjiani. The strategy centered on using parody as a vehicle for product education turning a familiar wellness format into an unexpected comedic branded moment. The video exaggerates the idea of meditation and mindfulness, with Kumail delivering a tongue-in-cheek “mantra” built directly around DIRECTV’s value propositions. Visually, the execution leaned heavily into brand presence through bold props, including an oversized remote, and repeated verbal cues that ensured the messaging was unmistakable without feeling like a traditional ad. This piece was intentionally more product-forward than other campaign spots, designed to function as a clear brand anchor within a modular social content system. The challenge was balancing repetition of key benefits with entertainment value; this was solved through Kumail’s performance, tight pacing, and comedic escalation, allowing DIRECTV’s message to remain both memorable and engaging.

Results

Guided Meditation succeeded as a brand-first asset that delivered clear, unambiguous product messaging. The video effectively reinforced DIRECTV’s “Glow Up” positioning through humor and strong brand integration.
