The trailer was shared at major events in the fall of 2016 including TechCrunch Disrupt, Social Good Summit at UN Week, SXSW Eco, The Franklin Institute, the Samsung 837 store in NYC, and the Golden State Warriors season ticketholder event to build anticipation for the early 2017 launch of the full film. The trailer received praise from filmmaker Richard Curtis, celebrity chef Jose Andres, Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., sportswriter Rick Reilly, actress and supermodel Mari Malek, and actor Tom Cavanagh. The film was chosen as a top ten VR film by the Newseum and showcased at their VR exhibit during the month of December. The film Won Best VR Documentary at Cinequest Film Festival in San Francisco, Feb. 28-March 12, 2017. The full public launch of the film is slated for early March 2017 on the Samsung VR and Discovery VR apps using GearVR headsets, and online via Facebook 360, YouTube 360, and Google VR.Rollout of the trailer resulted in major media coverage including TechCrunch, UploadVR, Philadelphia Magazine, and USA Today. The film has helped Nothing But Nets raise more than $20,000 in grassroots funding, $175,000 in new corporate sponsorships for the production and distribution, and over $170,000 in-kind, before the full film has even launched publicly.
