Objective

The Ramadan Charity Series is a special initiative by Ava Media aimed at highlighting acts of kindness, generosity, and community support during the holy month of Ramadan. The objective is to showcase inspiring stories of individuals, organizations, and initiatives that are making a meaningful impact, whether through feeding the less fortunate, supporting struggling families, or fostering a sense of solidarity within the Kurdistan Region.

Through a series of engaging video reports, interviews, and social media features, the project seeks to raise awareness, encourage participation in charitable efforts, and celebrate the spirit of giving that defines Ramadan. By documenting these stories, Ava Media not only amplifies the voices of those in need but also recognizes and motivates those who dedicate their time and resources to helping others.

The ultimate goal is to inspire viewers to take action, contribute to their communities, and spread compassion beyond Ramadan. This initiative aligns with Ava Media’s broader mission of storytelling that informs, inspires, and encourages positive change in society.

Strategy

Visiting the Grandmother with Three Children
To bring this episode to life, our approach was rooted in authenticity, emotional connection, and impactful storytelling. From the outset, we aimed to not only document the struggles of this family but also to inspire action and highlight the spirit of giving during Ramadan.

Plan of Action
1. Story Selection & Research: We identified the grandmother and her three grandchildren through our network of local NGOs and community organizations. After preliminary discussions with her, we ensured that the story aligned with our vision—showcasing resilience, hardship, and the power of kindness.
2. Pre-Production & Planning
- We coordinated with Hazhan, our presenter, to prepare for the visit, equipping her with key questions that would allow the grandmother to tell her story naturally.
- A small, agile production crew was assembled to ensure a minimalistic and respectful presence, avoiding an overly intrusive approach.
- We arranged for a surprise element which were some essential supplies and donations from a local charity partner to be delivered during the visit.
3. Execution: The Filming Process
- The shoot was conducted in an intimate and natural setting, inside the grandmother’s modest home.
- Hazhan engaged in heartfelt conversation, allowing the grandmother to share her struggles while raising three young children alone with limited resources, and the everyday challenges they face.
- The interaction was kept organic, ensuring the raw emotions and sincerity of the moment were captured authentically.
- The highlight of the episode was the surprise delivery of essential food items, clothing, and financial assistance, which led to an emotional and uplifting moment.

Challenges & How We Overcame Them

- Emotional Sensitivity: Addressing poverty and hardship required careful handling to avoid making the family feel uncomfortable or exploited. To ensure dignity, we allowed them to share their story on their terms, emphasizing their strength and resilience rather than just their struggles.
Logistical Constraints: The location was in a remote area with limited accessibility. We had to plan our route carefully and ensure that all necessary equipment could be transported efficiently.
Privacy Concerns: We obtained consent from the grandmother before filming and ensured that the final edit reflected her comfort level with what was shared.

We consider this effort a success because it did not just tell a story, it mobilized action. By connecting those in need with those willing to give, the episode embodied the true spirit of Ramadan, reinforcing Ava Media’s commitment to impactful journalism and meaningful change.
